Could you tell what time it is at night without using a clock? Learn how to use the night sky to calculate the time with this telling time with stars activity.
In this age, we are dependent on modern digital clocks to tell time and keep schedules.
Before clocks, sundials were used to tell time.
A sundial was placed in a specific position and the sun cast a shadow on the dial. As the earth rotated, the sun’s position changed and the shadow moved around the dial.
Ages ago, people used the stars and their position in the sky to navigate oceans and travel on land. What is more interesting is they could determine the time by the position of the stars.
This printable chart will be assembled to create a “star clock.”
You’ll only need basic knowledge of the constellations to get started.
First, you’ll locate the north star. Next, select the current month and be sure it is visible in the space on the wheel.
Locate the big dipper and line it up with the symbol on the card.
The time should be revealed on your star clock!
