Teaching your child to read. This concept may thrill and excite you as little minds are opened to a world of imagination and growth . . . or it may bring on feelings of dread, lack of direction and questions of your own capability. One of my goals for my children is that they will be strong readers. But I will admit, I don’t have a background in early education and I feel a little unsure of the task. What is the best way to start?
Today, I am excited to share a new book with you. My friend Jenae, from I Can Teach My Child, has launched her first ebook that will be a valuable resource for moms and dads who want to guide their children in learning to read.
Jenae is a former first grade teacher and stay at home mom to two boys. She is passionate about teaching her children and encourages other parents in the same pursuit. I Can Teach My Child to Read gives you 10 clear and easy-to-implement steps to help you open the world of reading to your child.
Before reading this book, I didn’t know how to be intentional about teaching someone how to read. Sure, I sit with my preschool-aged son and work on sounding out words and my daughter, at 3, is well exposed to the alphabet and more. But I didn’t know what I could do to be intentional about developing strong readers.
In this ebook, Jenae gives many ideas that make learning fun and hands on for your little ones. She even covers pre-reading activities for your kids who aren’t yet old enough to learn. With these purposeful activities, not only will you be able to prepare young children to be strong readers, but instill a love of reading.
There are some immediate changes I will be making in the way work with my son since reading this ebook. Before, my focus was only on decoding (sounding out words). In I Can Teach My Child to Read, Jenae shares other key ideas to be focused on as well.
This book is a wonderful resource for parents. It covers both theory and practice. It talks about the technical aspect of teaching your child to read as well as the relational side. With a 3 and 5 year old at home, I felt the timing for this book was perfect. But even if you have an infant, you can benefit from this ebook by starting early and laying strong foundations for reading. This is one of those books you will want to refer back to again and again.
Introductory Price! For the next five days only, I Can Teach My Child to Read is available at a 50% off introductory price. This price is only $1.99. That is less than a latte! (Beginning 1/13/13, the price will return to $3.99).
