Long ago, in a far-off land, at the beginning of my adventure of motherhood, I had my first mommy product crush.
“What’s that?” you might ask. It’s when you fall in love with a product that will make your venture in mommyhood easier. My crush? The Little Partners Learning Tower.
This majestic beauty sat in a friend’s kitchen. We chatted about how much she loved it. She loved its uses and how her daughter was able to help. She told me about the anti-tip feature and how it even could be used as a puppet show.
Then, since this was 2002 and the internet wasn’t what it is today, she handed me a catalog. (For you young’uns, that is an olden days website in paper form.) I read the price tag. I cried a little as my dream died inside of my young mommy heart. My sons wouldn’t have the Learning Tower because I had too much of a liking of electricity and running water.
This bad boy wasn’t cheap, especially to a couple who were saving for their first home. I prayed and told God that if He wanted to give it to me then feel free, but it just wouldn’t be something I would purchase at that price.
Fast-forward nearly 12 years.
Walk with me, in your imagination of course, to our local thrift store. My husband had made a huge find of some Lamplighter books for $1 each and I needed to go make sure he got them all. As I walked to the back wall, I gasped as I saw the Learning Tower I had wanted and prayed for all of this time sitting there. Its magical little tag read $20. THAT is a price I can afford! I brought her home, dusted her off, praised God for His gift to me, and stared at my new tower!
I have had 5 additional little ones since I fell in love with that tower back in 2002. My 2 year-old, who prefers standing on chairs over sitting, quickly began using the tower as her chair. I loved that tower just as much as I thought I would!
I secretly wished I had more than one but then I realized how silly it would be to have two. Well, God didn’t think it was silly to have two. Just two weeks later my husband came home with a second tower, this time a black one, for just $14!
I hit Learning Tower jackpot!
Now my children share the second tower and safely help me at the counter, just as I thought they would.
As a bonus, I now bask in the glorious idea that God cares about even the littlest prayers we have. Sometimes He answers, “Yes.” Sometimes it’s a no. This time it was a wait, and that’s okay since it came with a bonus tower.
Next time you hate waiting, just know God will always make it worth it.
