There’s nothing sunnier than a bunch of beautiful, towering sunflowers.
“Elf” is the smallest species of sunflower, reaching a height of 16 inches. The tallest sunflowers, “skyscrapers” and “Russian Mammoths” reach as high as 14 feet.
Russian Mammoth sunflowers have blooms that are up to 14 inches in diameter – larger than a dinner plate!
If you are looking for a new unit study, sunflowers are a great choice for this time of year. These sunflower playdough mats will make a great complement.
Print out all of the mats and be sure to laminate or use plastic sleeves to protect them. Gather dry-erase markers and the colors of playdough you would like for this activity.
Start with the first mat, a poster of the life cycle of a sunflower. You and your child can explore the many stages of growth.
Offer your child playdough to recreate the plant parts as you work through each mat.
The dry-erase markers can be used to trace the letters and words.
