We live on an island without many animals, yet sea turtles are sometimes able to be seen on our beaches and coastal shores.
Sometimes when we go for a ride on our friend’s boat, we can see them swimming beside us. Words just can’t describe how beautiful they are. They are graceful and serene.
Sea turtles are pretty famous where I live. Sadly, people are allowed to hunt them for a certain time throughout the year but it is very controlled.
What good reason some people would want to hunt these, I have no idea. Gets me a little mad, to be honest, but let’s move on.
Do you know that turtles from my island have made history?
The all-time verified record holder for the world’s oldest tortoise, according to Guinness World Records, is Tu’i Malila. It died in Tonga in 1966, when it was 189 years old.
Anyway, this is beside the point. Sea turtles are beautiful and your kids will enjoy learning about them in your homeschool.
