Although cursive writing may be phasing out in many schools, a lot of us still see the need to continue it in our homes.
Around the 3rd, 4th , or 5th grade, students may be ready to practice and perfect writing in cursive and improve their handwriting skills.
Many times print writing can slow a child’s writing. I learned that since my children learned cursive writing, they were abel to complete their writing assignments faster than when they printed.
I am unsure if that is a “thing” with every child but it helped my kids. If you are contemplating teaching cursive to your learners, here a few reasons that cursive is a benefit for children:
-It can increase writing speed, as mentioned above.
-Cursive is a precursor for reading cursive. Older documents need to be read as they are the foundation of our country (i.e. The Constitution, The Declaration of Independence, The Magna Carta, etc.)
-It improves information retention. Writing faster means taking better notes to study with.
-Learning cursive will help your children develop their own unique signature, which they will need as adults.
