Kids seem to notice everything from funny cloud shapes to the shape of the moon. Learn more about the night sky with these free moon phase activities.
The moon seems to change shape in the sky every couple of days. Sometimes the moon is full, sometimes a tiny sliver, and sometimes it’s nearly invisible.
The different shapes that the moon appears in are called moon phases.
Moon phases occur as the moon orbits the earth. As the moon rotates around the earth, the area lit by the sun changes shape.
Use these worksheets to teach your child all about the phases of the moon.
Display your moon phase poster throughout your study. Referring to the poster, your child can draw their own moon phases on the blank worksheet.
Also included is a printable lunar calendar tracker. You and your child can track the phases of the moon as it orbits the earth.
Play the match-up game to review the names of the moon phases. Print your page on cardstock and have fun matching the name and picture cards.
The coloring pages will be a fun reminder of your moon phase study!
