Learning to read and even draw a map is a necessary skill for kids to learn in preparation for their geography lessons.
My daughter has aspirations to become a marine biologist. So, while her girl friends and cousins are taking accounting courses, she is full-on interested in geography like the boys in our homeschool community.
She asked me for a map of the world for Christmas. This may seem simple to many of you, but where I live on a small island, finding a full world map can be a challenge.
The skills she has learned in studying map sis invaluable as she is now able to estimate distances, and view what type of terrain a land may have or where it is in respect to the equator or the polar caps.
