Aquarium Trip Tips
Research the layout
Before you head to the aquarium, check out the layout of the building, so that you can make sure to check all of the exhibits. And, you can plan your stay and any information you want to focus you can make your first priority.
Check out any of the aquarium’s activities
Many times, aquariums will have specialized exhibits and activities that are perfect for homeschoolers and school field trips. Take a look before you go so you can focus on whatever you’re learning at the time.
Create an activity to use during the trip
To keep your child focused and motivated during the field trip, design an activity that they can take with them and use during their tour. It could be a checklist or a notebooking page to collect certain information. It’s up to you! But you want to make sure the activity is effective, related to what you’re doing, and connected to the final extension activity.
Create an extension activity
Aquariums and field trips are meant to be a lot of fun! You want your child to enjoy themselves. But you also want it to be an educational trip, and you want them to have learned something new that they can take with them. A great way to do this is to finish off the trip with an extension activity.
An extension activity helps to solidify information that was learned during a unit or other activity. With an aquarium field trip, a good extension activity could be a research project on a certain species, a report, or even something like a journal entry about the trip’s events. You could even work together with your child to build your own aquarium at home!
