If you have a beginner reader, you’ll probably be teaching sight words soon. This CVC sight words activity will help your child learn to recognize sight words.
Sight words are simple words that are recognized by sight rather than sounding them out.
CVC words are usually sight words also. The difference is that CVC words are three-letter words with a consonant-vowel-consonant pattern.
When children begin to read, the first words they read and recognize are usually CVC words.
These CVC sight word mats are a great way to practice recognition.
The mats have a fun camping theme, great for summertime or with themed lessons.
To use this activity, print and laminate the number of mats you need. You’ll need a dry-erase marker for your child to use for writing.
Read words from the included sight word list. Have your child write the word in as they sound it out.
Add CVC sight words from any list you have for more practice. The more words your child recognizes, the more efficiently they will read.
