While some students thrive in writing, it can be a cumbersome chore for others. If you have a struggling or reluctant writer, you might find this article on dysgraphia from All About Learning Press helpful.
How Can I Help My Child With Dysgraphia
Does this sound familiar?
“My child is a reluctant writer…it’s like there’s a block between his pen and the paper! Why is writing so hard for him?”
And more than anything, you may be wondering…
“How can I help him?”
If your child is struggling with hand writing, it could be more than just laziness or a lack of motivation. It could a neurologically-based learning issue called dysgraphia.
What is dysgraphia?
The child described above may be struggling with more than just a reluctance to write. He may have dysgraphia, a neurologically-based learning disability that affects handwriting. A child with dysgraphia will demonstrate handwriting that does not meet the expected skill levels for his age, intelligence, and education.
A child with dysgraphia may also appear to be unmotivated, or what we sometimes refer to as a reluctant writer. Because he has trouble expressing his thoughts and ideas in writing, he may be accused of being lazy.
