We have 6 children ranging from 11 months up to almost 14yrs. For my girls, I’m unable to pass down clothes as there are 13 yrs between them 😀 We have friends who pass over 2nd hand clothes for the two girls but sometimes need to supplement what we have. Just this week, my oldest daughter let me know she was in need of long sleeve fall/winter tops. A thrift store (a local church ministry) posted on FB that they were having a half off Labor Day sale… so I loaded up all the children and prayed for providence 😀 We walked out with 10 tops for her, 3 for me, 1 for my husband, 1 skirt for me, 2 pants for my husband, and a pair of leggings for my youngest daughter plus 5 books for my boys… $12.62!!! My boys pass down their clothes to the next youngest and friends also give us 2nd hand clothes for them…. so often, the only thing we need to buy is new socks & underwear & shoes! However, this season, things have been super tight & we just could not see how we’d be able to get those sock, shoes, & underwear… a family member from out of state came to visit & bought new shoes for the ENTIRE family… all EIGHT of us! The boys also received new socks & underwear… and a new toy 😉 It was an absolute blessing to our family! We never mentioned our need to others, so we know it’s God provision for our family 🙂 I’m also part of a local FB auction site & have been able to pick up a few pieces of clothing and some shoes here & there for little money.
I get almost all of my childrens clothing from consignment sales, resale groups on FB or from the local goodwill. We just moved to this area and I have to say I notice a difference in the Goodwill here verses where we just moved from. Its a nicer area here and we find TONS of name brand excellent clothing for $1!!! Its hard to beat 🙂
