Since before our children were born, my husband and I have always had a very exciting and vibrant prayer life. When we came together in marriage, having wonderful prayer lives as individuals became explosive as a couple united in heart and mind.
When our youngest child turned a certain age, the Lord convicted our hearts about the importance of praying specifically for our homeschool. While we prayed general prayers, God really opened our eyes to the intensity with which He would call us to pray for our homeschool.
We pray together as parents over our school, and we pray together as a family several times a day {every day} over our homeschool. We pray with other like-minded families over our homeschool {and their’s as well}. We find as much time as possible to make praying over our homeschool an intentional part of each day.
Here are 5 of the many reasons we pray intently over our homeschool each day:
It’s God’s will. God wills that all of His children pray. We are called to pray for intimacy with Him, wisdom, for confession of sin, as well as His will to be done on this earth. The same is true for our homeschool.
Increased family unity. Ephesians 4:3 says, “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” Through prayer we see continued peace and unity within the dynamic of our homeschool. Does this mean every day is perfect? No. But it does mean that God’s peace is undeniably present in all of our days together and we work things out very quickly as a result of His presence.
Wisdom. One of my favorite scriptures is found in James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” I am grateful that we can approach our God in prayer and ask Him for wisdom about anything. I am amazed at how His generosity never runs out and His love for us is true.
Protection. When we pray for protection, it is for all types–protection from physical harm, spiritual harm, and protection from the mindset of the world. I am seeing how God’s divine protection rests upon our homeschool and family, and I am so grateful for it.
It builds faith. Increased faith to do the will of God is a major reason we homeschool our children. By praying together we are not only building our children’s faith, but ours as well. It is an amazing thing to watch transpire in our day-to-day lives.
While there are several other reasons we pray in our homeschool, the above 5 reasons are at the top of our list. I pray that this list can be source of encouragement for those who are trying to incorporate more prayer in their homeschool and everyday life.
I am praying for each of you. Please know that I love you all dearly with the love of Christ!
